Neighborhoods

Vibrant parks and public spaces, inviting streetscapes, neighborhoods with character and urban appeal -- these are the hallmarks of a vibrant city. From the development of signature parks and unique community programming to engaging neighborhoods in community green spaces, ParkWorks creates places that create community.

ParkWorks announced today the release of a Request for Proposals for a Local Foods Assessment and Plan of Northeast Ohio. The assessment will report on the state of the food system in Northeast Ohio and the successful consultant will be hired by a steering committee to (1) analyze the feasibility and impact of expanding our local food system and (2) develop a regional business/strategic plan designed to strengthen the local food system.

Park Programming

Each summer, we serve 1,000 children and neighbors through engaging and educational summer park programming, and we construct new parks and community spaces throughout the city as part of our ambitious agenda to revitalize Cleveland's neighborhoods.

Our neighborhood agenda is shaped by our partnership with Neighborhood Progress Inc.'s Strategic Investment Initiative, which focuses on NPI's Neighborhoods of Choice:

  • Buckeye
  • Detroit Shoreway
  • Famicos
  • Fairfax
  • Slavic Village
  • Tremont

We are proud to partner with the community development corporations in each of these neighborhoods to include essential quality of life amenities, like parks and engaging public spaces, to be factored into broader community development efforts. Please see Our Partners for a link to each CDC.

Best Practices

Since 2005, ParkWorks has been partnering with Neighborhood Progress, Inc. to develop communities and neighborhoods through urban parks and related programs. The above tools have been developed to showcase some of the best practices that have emerged through this program.

"ParkWorks has brought the art of creativity and innovation to public space making in Slavic Village. We have been fortunate to have a partner like ParkWorks as we create a community of active family-friendly neighborhoods." -- Marlane Weslian, Slavic Village Development

Neighborhood Updates

ParkWorks is actively working with neighborhood community development organizations on a variety of projects throughout Cleveland’s neighborhoods, including:

East 118th Pocket Park and Transit Waiting Environment

In partnership with Cleveland Public Art and the Buckeye Area Development Corporation, ParkWorks is turning an unsightly but highly-used corner into a $200,000 neighborhood gathering place with a signature sculpture, seating walls, new landscaping and a community stage. A nearby transit stop will also be moved to the Pocket Park to create an inviting setting for transit riders.

Clark Field

With support from First Interstate Properties, Ltd. and the Saint Luke’s Foundation and in partnership with Tremont West Development Corporation and the Friends of Clark Field, ParkWorks helped to create a much needed play area for residents and visitors to this 22 acre greenspace in Tremont.

Morgana Run

The Morgana Run Trail is a new bike and pedestrian trail winding through Slavic Village. Working with Slavic Village Development and Cleveland Public Art, ParkWorks is increasing use of the Trail through attractive signage and a way finding system.
